Is anyone talking about gliders under the new rules?

So I’m reading thru the “Compliance Checklist for SFOC – RPAS – CAR 903.01(d) - Operation of a RPAS at an altitude greater than those referred to in subsection 901.25(1)” to see if I can get to fly a glider higher than 400’ above ground level. I have to say that on first read thru it looks like a harrowing fully govern’mental’ form. I will pretend to be dauntless and proceed but I’m wondering if anyone has experienced full compliance with the new rules and attained this goal?

Comments from people with this direct experience would be greatly appreciated.

MAAC is working on that (flying above 400FT AGL) with TC. You can read Mike Anderson's column in the recent MAAC magazine about it.

Re: Is anyone talking about gliders under the new rules?

Thank you for the look to the future but I don’t wish to wait much longer for what may or may not transpire. We have the rules that we all must fly within now already established if it becomes easier in the future all the better. So, right now, I’m specifically looking to see if anyone has done a SFOC for glider flights as of now under the current rules.

Good luck. I saw the harrowing full governmental form and crawled back into my private citizen bunker....after receiving the full governmental reply to my first attempt.

Assuming you want to fly your glider under Part IX (as opposed to MAAC rules).

The process is not for the faint of the heart to say the least. If you find some drone company that has done this before, they are unlikely to give it out for free.

So yeah, good luck.

I will be flying at MAAC sites for almost all my flying gliders, glow powered planes and electric but the 400’ ceiling applies everywhere unless I’ve missed something. 400’ hard ceiling applies everywhere in Canadian airspace even at MAAC sites unless an individual has a SFOC approved.

As you plan to fly under MAAC rules then you should email your ZD for an update.
