crystals??

Ok, I understand that crystals are "CUT" for specific transmitters and receivers, and must match the unit you are working with (eg. Futaba must have Futabs crystals, Hitek, Hitec crystals...etc.)
BUT...if you are using a Hitec Receiver with a Futaba Transmitter (don't worry, it says right on the label its compatible) should the Hitec receiver get a Hitec
cut crystal, or a Futaba crystal??
..and yes, the channels are the same.

Re: crystals??

Thank you very much guys, I suspected that this was the case, as crystals are optimized for their specific manufacturer...but I read a thread on an American forum that stated that the receiver crystal should match the transmitters manufacturer, no matter the receivers manufacturer...which seemed a bit weird.

Re: crystals??

I have used HiTec crystals in Airtronics receivers. No range issues. I have tested (bench not range) Futaba crystals in Airtronics and HiTec receivers all work fine. I have tested (bench) Futaba transmitter crystals in an Aitronics transmitter and it worked fine. Of course transmitter crystals in transmitters and receiver crystals in receivers.

These were all dual conversion FM crystals. I think these are all made the same. Airtronics and HiTec receivers are designed to allow YOU to change crystals without having to have them re-tuned. Transmitters and transmitter modules have to be re-tuned if you move more than one or two channels away from the installed crystal. Always range check first though!

JR receivers were mostly single conversion so those crystals will not work. I know they made some dual conversion receivers but have no experience with them or their transmitter crystals.
