Lets see your kit boxes for your turbine jets & hear ide
Hi guys ; I am trying to design a kit box that will be dedicated to my
turbine jets. I already have one for glow powered planes. Those designs do not suit the turbine s though. I am considering buying a roll around tool box that Home Depot sells. It has one box on top of another with several compartments in the top one. I was thinking that a good size battery & chargers would go in the bottom one and the top one could have parts, tools, etc. Any help would be appreciated. Your pics and ideas would help me and maybe others too. Thanks in advance. |

Boy Angus, you're not foolin' around any more!
Some day I hope to pick up a trailer chassis and build a weatherproof jet carrying box on top. As for the tool boxes; I wish I had a photo of Dean's tool box unit. He's got it down to a pretty exact science. My hardware always looks like a natural disaster rolled through the back of the Focus station wagon. Kelly

Hey Angus ;
How the heck do you get your "kit box" to the flight line eh : I think you should be moving to your namesake town of Angus. Just west of Barrie. It's closer to the flying field. |

It can be a bit of a challenge
I have been used to travelling a fair distance to fly so I wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything so "hence" the trailer. I also got tired stuffing everything into a shortbox truck and giving the planes some serious hanger rash, they get enough from my flying Anyway, where are you Dean! lets see your Fight Box! Angus |

This is similar to the box I use, Dean has the same one I do. But mine is a bit different, it has the large compartment on the bottom, the removable box on top, and the middle section has 2 drawers that have multiple sections in them. The sides have built in bungi's that hold my fire extinguisher. Have my battery in the top box and fuel pump mounted to that. This one in the picture looks a little nicer actually, might be time to upgrade again!

I broke my box down by function - there is some gear you need at the start up station:
-ear defenders -Powermax / propane -Fire extinguisher -Ground data unit -Leaf blower -transmitter -taxi tank -emergency tool box with spare glow plugs, festo fittings, etc etc... This I carry in a wheeled fold up crate. And at your pits you need different gear: -fueler jug -voltmeter / chargers -air pump -first aid kit -spare oil and propane -12V power source Etc There is no need to lug this stuff to the starting station, so I leave it in my pit. I found a beautiful wheeled Stanley metal tool box that holds everything, and the wheeled cart fits neatly on top so everything can be taken in one trip between the vehicle and pits. I'm a minimalist,and don't carry any more than I need to use to the pits. Spare fuel, picnic coolers, tools etc stay in the vehicle unless I need them. So far it has worked wonderfully for me

Hi Guys!
Sorry for the late reply...I was demoted to general groundskeeper/ window washer today. I missed my office chair Anyway, as per previous posts I picked up the multi tier pull cart from Canadian Tire. Works well. Cut out a front panel and put in a power panel, fuel pump ( Jersey style ) on the side and extinguisher on the other. Power supplied by a lead acid battery. The lower pull out houses the transmitter, GSU and propane bottle. Over the years I got to know which tools I need and just have the basics in the smaller puller outs. I think crappy Tire sells them for about $80.00 D.W. |
