Choosing the right ESC?

I am getting my GWS A-10 ready to fly this summer. I am new to electric and am ready to purchase an esc for the model. I a not sure what size the edf system is. As I have upgraded to a kit with bigger nacelles and larger brushed motors. A gentlemen at the local field suggested to me that a 25a esc should cover me for most electric projects. I also wish to run this with lipo cells.
I am looking for good esc suggestions and lipo pack suggestions that will make my A-10 perform properly.

Thanks

Re: Choosing the right ESC?

Is it not two motors and two fans?? If so you should allow 20 Amps per each....so a
40 A esc would work.

Re: Choosing the right ESC?

If you plan to use other types of cells in the future that have a very different cut off voltage such as the popular A123 cells you might want to get an ESC that is fully programmable like the ones made by Castle Creations.

I missed the word "BRUSHED". They take different controllers.

Re: Choosing the right ESC?

With the supplied info very hard to offer help. Can only ask why brushed motors? If you are planning on running lipo's the motors are not going to last long on the higher voltage.

Re: Choosing the right ESC?

A quick Google on "gws a-10" yielded quite a few hits.

http://www.remote-control-rc-hobby.com/rcplane.html

He's got the same configuration, and is usign a 20-amp ESC/BEC.

Tower Hobbies recommends the same size unit.

The GWS website recommends the ICS-300 which is a 15-amp unit.

Of course, these are brushed motors and when you go to brushless motors, you'll have to pony up for another ESC.
