Got me second Super decathlon finished after the demise of the first. Was thinking of repairs...still might..but not sure of how the straight the fusealge will be after, it got twisted pretty good.

here are a couple of the first decathlon before and after
the red circles mark the broken / cracks. There are a few cracks along the bottom, landing gear mount and some that I couldn't mark, also wing mount totally destroyed.

Re: Super Decathlon Part II

The new Decathlon - the replacement was cheaper arf to buy this time then the first by about 20 bucks , may have to do something with cooling, I wanted this one to have no holes in the cowl for the head or high speed adjust, the cowl looks way better. Haven't had a chance to fly yet, good ol' ma nature is still raining.

Re: Super Decathlon Part II

I wasn't home that night, was at Lac Pelletier south of swift current for the long weekend , but the wind and the storm found us there. So it is a trip to SGI for us. Gotta love hail ...*sigh* . Did notice one thing tho, just about all of the imports lost windows, domestics only cracked windshields and dents of course. Hail was anywhere from marble size to golf ball to pool ball.

I hope the Decathlon cooling will be ok without the holes, it does have fairly large outlet at the bottom of the cowl close to the firewall.

Re: Super Decathlon Part II

Remember this, I said I might fix it, well fixed it...got it nice and straight, turned out it wasn't as big as a disaster as first anticipated. the first pics are what it looked like when I first took it off the bench.
I was going to cover it in a totally different color, but thought, hmmm, the wings are red and I have another decathlon, sooooo why not just redo it in red so I can use the wing for both planes. I got a saito 72 in my other decathlon.
One nitro one 4 stroke, should be interesting to see the difference in the flight between the two.

Here is the result.

Re: Super Decathlon Part II

Not sure about you, but I see a sorry a$$ broken plane I just want to fix it, it bugs the crap out of me until it is ready for the sky.
Not only that it gives me a reason to clean up the shop and wait for my winter project to arrive. : grin:

Re: Super Decathlon Part II

Looking good Dave... I am like you, see something broke, just have to try and repair it....doing the same thing to my Tango as we speak!! Should have junked it, it was quite a bit worse than your Decathlon, but the wing was unscathed....so, started repairing it and no turning back now!

Cheers
