John:
Most mag wires are kill wires and need to be disconnected to run. When you ground the wire, it shorts out the coil to shut the motor off. Try it without the wire connected. Needs to be spun over in a shadowed place as the electronic igns, show a very faint spark, which is normal. Coil spacing is .010.

Bad Engine?

Thanks for your input but as early in the talks it had been said that wires were as they come and it had been tried with and without kill switch but always same thing it won't spark.I have had a few gas engines and this has not happen to me before I think it could be a bad coil but was seeing if someone else had same trouble and what they may have done.
I guess I'll take to shop and have them check coil to see if it's the problem.
Thanks for all your help maybe if I still throw it on the ground it will work?
John.

hi john : bob here , try taking the coil off and sand the contacts and the magnets on the fly wheel . gap should be ten thou use a repair ticket that you get from a small engine repair place to set it . as far as checking the coil just check for continuity with your ohm meter . if still don't work i may be interested

Well it works it was the plug cap all this time.Replaced it with one from Canadian Tire for lawnmowers do you think that it will be up to par? Will it still give some shield from spark as its not as hard as the one that came with the motor.Have not put into plane as of yet just on test stand. Thanks to everyone for help with this small problem.John
