OLD MRC unit

I have inherited a model boat that has an MRC Mark VI controller at 27.095 MHZ with not charging cord.
Does anyone know if parts are available for this thing? I guess vintage is mid 70s

Re: OLD MRC unit

Can you take some pics? Would be interesting to see if you can get the original equipment working or if it is possible to upgrade it to new gear.

I'm doing the same to a boat now.

Re: OLD MRC unit

Cougar 429. I took pictures, can't figure how to upload a picture. Are there any hobby shops in this area that sell or know anything about old RC staff or be able to help me update?
Say it is invalid file. It is JPEG

Re: OLD MRC unit

Don't know of any specifically in this area that deal with older gear. However, RCC is a pretty good resource. Hopefully once we see what you are dealing with someone here can be of more assistance.

I upload JPEGs all the time here. but most are under 500Kb in size. Perhaps they are too large?

Re: OLD MRC unit

Actually, the radio is still legal to use. The frequencies are shared with the CB operators, but they are getting scarce.
I my self would be looking into upgrading to this can't beat this for the price

Re: OLD MRC unit

Mike I will have a look and see what I have left from my old MRC Deep V.

I recently did a spring clean up and a lot of stuff went to the curb, Hull, drive train, etc.
I think I still have the MRC servo's, will check if I still have the charger.
what ever I have left for an mrc, you can have...free

Dan.

Re: OLD MRC unit

Dan, Thank you in advance for whatever you might have. I think I have attached picture of the MRC VI unit I have with a picture of the plug for charging cord.
I also need to convert the batteries in the boat or find replacements. I have attached pictures of them as well, 2 -12 volt sealed lead acid and a 4.8volt for rudder.
Anyone seen anything like these in recent past?

Thanks in advance for any advise or direction.

Mike

Re: OLD MRC unit

I have the exact same radio that I still use for an RC car. It works great.

I had to do 2 things

1) I converted the batteries to modern ones. It is simple.
First, instead of a single 9.6V pack, it uses 2 4.8V square packs.
The batteries should each have a connector on it that leads to the transmitter. If you want, you can use the same conectors, just cut off the leads to the old batteries close to the batteries to give you the most leads, then buy 2 4.8V nicad or Nimh square packs and solder them in, one for each side of the transmitter

The other option is to remove the old connector and replace it with a newer Futaba connector. Then just like the first option, buy 2 4.8V square nicad or NiMh packs, plug 'em in and charge them up.

2) The other thing I did to mine was to convert the charge jack to a modern charge jack

it is standard center pin +, but because of the dual battery configuration, I did have to wire it to the TX switch, where the 2 batteries are connected in series to add up to 9.6V
Here is a picture of my charge jack:

Re: OLD MRC unit

Great suggestion,
Mike, I would definitely do that mod, my mrc stuff are/was different.
my radio was early 80's, guess you could call it the next generation for back then as it was no longer using the old connectors.

but I will keep looking.

Dan.

Re: OLD MRC unit

Thanks Max and Dan, That battery modification sounds the right thing to do.
Any idea where I can buy the batteries and plug?
