What is your favorite tool in your workshop and why?

No anatomy jokes please we all know that's our favorite.

Mine is a table top belt sander. It works great for getting good square edges on a piece of material. Quite often I don't even turn it on, I hand drive it with the belt and sand the material on the disc sander. I've had it for over 10 years and it is indispensible.

That's exactly what I do with my table top belt sander, (by Hand) Most of the time if i turn it on, and just touch the wood to the disc, it leaves a burr or a burned mark or something. WISH there was a way to slow it down to 100 rpm.

I would have to say mine is my dremel. I dont know how got by with out it before.

Bandsaw... hands down the handiest tool .. next to the dremels ... oh, and the scroll saw .. and let's not forget the drill press.

... not to mention the most overlooked but most used tool. The #11 Xacto blade!

Router...

.. my wife's grandfather died, and he was a "hoarder" - surviver of the depression, etc. Anyways, his basement was full to the rafters of "stuff". After the closer family had divvied up his estate, there was still a lot left, and I was invited to "see if there's anything you want". Well, I found a NIB Router (amongst other things I claimed, like a set of "turning" chisels that I am waiting storing till I get a lathe....).

Never had a router before, and I can tell you that the combination of the router's versatility, and it's sentimental value make it by far my most favourite tool. I had no idea that a router could solve so many problems. Following closely on the Router is a '50's era square I inherited from MY grandfather, but it's usefullness is limited because it is no longer quite true, and it has provided a LOT of service. Sort of like a "favourite hammer", I guess.

Anyways, the tool I use most is probably my cordless de-walt screwdriver/drill. It is a real work-horse. It must have worked on close to 100000 screws/drills.

My vote has to got to the Dremel motor tool... followed closely by a roll of Duct Tape.

I love my disk sander, but I probably use my cordless drill the most.

#2-#11 xacto blade
#3-small cordless drill (10 year old Makita 4.8 volt)
#4-various "dental" picks/tools.....If your dentist is "a nice guy" he'll give you his dull or broken ones...They're "invaluable" for getting into places your fingers can't!
