Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
I had a spare camera and video Tx and decided to put it in a Phase 3 Squall. The camera will be mounted down in the nose behind the nose cone protector. The tip of the nose will be in camera view when set up. I'll run it off a separate 2s bat/5vbec. The vid tx is 2.4ghz and I'm going to use a AR6200 2.4 for control. My video will be on channel 8. Channels 6,7,8 are outside the freqencies that are used for flight control. I'll have to do some ground testing to check that it works. Should be alot of fun. If I can get good at flying it I'll try with my video googles on.

Re: Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
I finished off the Squall. It was a very easy and fast build. The only mod I did was to epoxy some 1/2 oz fg cloth on the inside, up to the fan, of the bottom duct. It makes it very stiff, better then before. I have not set in my gear yet, I'm out of connectors for my vid gear and they will be here next week. I weighed it with just a 4s 2500 bat, AR6200. The RTF weight is 696g's. With my video gear, the RTF weight is 838g's.

Re: Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
I'm waiting for some connectors for my vid gear. As soon as it arrives, I'll install my vid equipment, do a c of g and check if I get a conflict with my radio tx/rx and vid tx. If the weather permits I'll have some video hopefully next weekend.

Re: Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
My parts came and I was able to hook everything up and do a test video. No conflict occured between my AR6200 and 2.4Ghz video. Next will be an outside ground range check with everything powered up. The video is pretty boring stuff. It was recorded on an Archos605. No plans on using the audio channel. It would be just noise anyways. I'll add music to a flying video.

Re: Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
I thought that running 2.4 GHZ downlink and a 2.4 RX on the same plane was a big no no. I certainly could be wrong though.

Re: Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
guess it depends on the wattage and position of the downlink TX. Make sure to turn on the downlink first and the RC second.

Re: Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane
My vid Tx and AR6200 are right beside each other. I needed to put all the gear to the rear to balance it. My video Tx/Rx have 8 channels to select from. In my test I used channel 8 for video. The frequencies that use video channels 6,7,8 are outside the frequencies used in the AR6200. The AR6200 does not scan up into these frequencies, therefore no conflict. If you have a 2.4 system, then use the higher channels for video and you won't bother other flyers on 2.4Ghz. I will try a test powering up vid tx, AR6200 and vice versa and let you know the results. I will do a very good ground range check before the first flight.

Phase 3 Squall EDF video plane Maiden Flight/Video
I had the maiden flight of my Phase 3 Squall video EDF. It hand launched very easy and was able to fly at a good pace with the extra weight of the video gear. I needed 6 clicks of up elevator to trim it out. I flew on low rates, which were more then enough to control the plane. I did notice it liked to drop the nose in a steep banked turn. A little rudder mixing can fix this. In one spot on the field, by the trees, I had a one second loss of control. The motor just cut out and then back on. No doubt some interference. It happened again in the same spot. This time I was banked too much and it nosed toward the ground when it cut out. I cut throttle and pulled up. Control came back just in time. I decided to try and put it down and it nosed in from about 5 feet. The nose broke off, which epoxy will fix. I'll have it back in no time. All my video gear came out OK, no damage. If I had more room, I would seperate the vid tx and RC rx as far apart as possible. This may help but no room for me to do that. I'm going to swap out the 2.4rx with a 72Hhz rx and try again.
