And then get dilled on the drill press:

Basically the hinge jigs let you put a hole diagonally into the corner of the trailing edge:

What you end up with are hinges at the top edge that just barely stick out of the top surface. Actually, this is fairly close to scale:

Last up, here's this week's timelapse:

+ YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

Finished the week with just barely 96 hours into the build. I just started the right wing today.

And as always, the full playlist:

Re: 35% AMR Decathlon Build

Last night was my clubs first monthly meeting of the year, so I decided to take the Decathlon out of the basement for some show and tell.

I also grabbed a couple of pictures while it was out of the basement and I actually had the room. Why is it that models always seem so much bigger while you're working on them in the shop

Cheers,
Tom

Re: 35% AMR Decathlon Build

They did, but I fed them a line about how with twin cylinder gas engines, the torque and P-factor cancel out meaning that the pressure differential across the right wing is zero, and that wing is not actually required. In fact, on most giant scale aircraft, the right wing is a completely symmetrical airfoil with a negative angle of incidence so that it doesn't cause an adverse rolling moment. Boils down to the fact that right wing is not required and is usually only there to mimic the full scale aircraft. That's why in all of the "one wing landing" videos you see online, it's always the left wing that snaps off.

They seemed to buy it hook line and sinker.

Re: 35% AMR Decathlon Build

LOL!!!! I know you definitely convinced me I didn't understand until you mentioned p-factor and negative incidence and then it all made sense.

In fact, that's exactly what happened when my 43% Carden lost a wing 2 years ago... I landed it really "gently" on the spinner thanks to that p-factor!

Nice work!

Re: 35% AMR Decathlon Build

That is very funny. Goes to show you, you can rationalize anything.
Nice explaination. You should consider politics.
