Re: TF P-47 ARF Scale Project.

Ok,

As promised rivets are underway. WOW this is hard. Im doing the lines as per P-47 schematics and Im wondering if its almost too too much.

ALso notice I have scrubbed the metal in a different direction some panels. This helps pop the look out of some panels. Then I came to think the wings will have invasion stripes and it may be for no use at all. Oh well.

We will get the rivets done soon and make our paint lab and get some invasion stripes on within the next few days. Stay tuned!!!

Dave

P.S. I included a pic of the warbird colors product. This guy chuck was easy to work with and the goal here is the paints are water based just like the glassing products i used. The intent to keep the weight low.

Rivets! They look great but they are a real b*tch and can take forever, longer than the model build sometimes...

Dangaras,

Thanks. Ill let you in on a secret here for the metal application. Check out the pic. You just apply a ruler with a cork back to the metal and roll along the ruler. INSTANT RIVETS!!!!!!!!!

I have seen that trick for sunken rivets work (after much practice) really well. The pop rivets and screws are tye ones you do with canopy glue and a needle/syringe....

Re: TF P-47 ARF Scale Project.

The following pics are a test.

First is the makeshift paint booth I created. Looks also effective if your a fan of Dexter.

The next is a box with a ish smooth surface. I applied a large left over flite metal piece and applied an Etching primer. The result after only several passes of this primer is what seems to be a smooth application with no run off and takes well to the metal. I also added painters tape to see what happens to the edges once I peel it back. Fingers crossed.

In the mean time the Jugs oil cooler doors are glued to the aircraft and all rivets are done so she is ready for paint.

Re: TF P-47 ARF Scale Project.

The primer for the invaision stipes is now done. This came out well and the rivets still pop great so we should see them once the paint is on too. The flaps were primed as well.

Ill prime the top of the fuse and the rudder and elevators once the stipes are done.

So tomorrow Ill be using my paint gun for the first time and my paints are water based. Instructions vary from 15-40% add water. I guess that means adding the water the paint in the gravity fed bottle.

Cross your fingers.

Re: TF P-47 ARF Scale Project.

Hey Dave; You are doing a nice job. The finish is everything, particularily if it last. None of my business really, but it looks a little cold to be painting. I am sure the manufacturer gives you a temperature range and my experience would be it wouldn't be cold enough for snow.

You may not get the long term adhesion you are looking for.

Re: TF P-47 ARF Scale Project.

John,

Thanks for the heads up. Although I am aware of this I had really no choice.

The paint I bought is water based thus I can paint in the house. However the metal needs an etching Primer and this leaves vicious fumes in the house. The application was done outside with a noon hour temperature of +3. Then quickly brought inside. I hope this works.

Let me tell you. I hope these lines come out ok cause its challenging to get anything straight on 90 % of this beast.

The remainder of the paint will be done with a gun and shot indoors.

One question I do have for those of you who have sprayed with a gun. Once Im done applying my first coat do I have to dump the paint back into the came it came from or can I leave it in the fridge for a few hours or overnight?

Thanks.

Dave

Re: TF P-47 ARF Scale Project.

Painting has begun. This is gut wrenching!

I did a quick first spray test and rock and roll. Im on my way. Ill apply the white today and do the black bars tomorrow unless this cures super fast.

Best.
