What's a good set of main blades?

Looking for a set of 600mm main blades for my JR Venture 50. I have a gift certificate from GH so I was browsing what they have available. I had no idea prices could vary such a wide range. This is not my first heli, but it is my first nitro. Most my experience is on a Blade 400 and a Blade SR. I'm leaning towards a pair of cheapo woodies. What do you guys think?

I'm not a fan of woodies on a heli this size. What type of flying do you do?

Re: What's a good set of main blades?

Woodies have a few drawbacks even if you're not a 3d god.

- You really can't spin 'em any faster than 1800rpm or so or the helicopter will grenade.
- You'll also have to balance them (which I don't bother with on higher end blades unless I have a problem).
- You'll likely have to epoxy the roots on yourself too.
- You'll also have to worry about keeping the covering on them tight without shrinking it so much it pulls a hole in itself (not too big a deal for most).

Two big bonuses:

- They're cheap
- They do less damage to the helicopter when you crash

If this is your first nitro, I'd caution you - if you're running curves have somebody help you. Make SURE you don't spin the head above 1800rpm.

Personally I always thought they were more trouble than they were worth. I've always put at least fibreglass blades (like the grey funkeys) on anything bigger than my 450.

All jmho of course

Re: What's a good set of main blades?

Rotormonkey13 has all the pros and cons of woodies covered; I would recommend staying away from them. GH has a good selection of composite Align and Curtis Youngblood Radix blades - And I doubled checked - GH also carry a 600 mm Century blade too.

Personally I'm a big fan of RotorTechs myself. They're super quiet in the air compared to others which tells me they're efficient. I like efficient.

Re: What's a good set of main blades?

I do very basic maneouvering. Hover and slow flight. I'm still learning. I liked the fact that woodies were cheap but you guys bring up good points. I'm not ready to blow $150 for a set of rotortechs though. The Align 600D CF blades seem like a good deal.

I prefer white ones myself. Could those fit?

I have chose to use Rotortech. They were decently priced at $80 and are perfectly balanced out of the box!

P.S. What is GH?

Re: What's a good set of main blades?

If the retail price of rotortechs throw you off, then think about going direct to his site and buying the cosmetically flawed ones. They are perfectly sound, just the paint job was off or something. Usually save 20-25%. Or as suggested, find some nice fiberglass ones. For sport flying they are perfect.
