Servo Connections - Damp Environment

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi Guys:

I'm going to install a water rudder servo in one of the floats of my conventional floatplane. The servo will be well protected from moisture, but the lead or plug, where it enters the fuselage may become wet. I want to install a female plug in the side of fuse so that I only have to insert the servo's male plug into the female plug for quick hook-up or removal (the aircraft is used primarily as a "land" plane and only occasionally as a float plane). Do you think that I could run into problems if water gets near or on the male/female connection?

Thanks,

Peter

Vaseline has other uses too!!!

slather it in vaseline. It'll keep out the water and come off without making too much of a mess.

I would just wrap the connection in heat shrink tubing up to and including a part or the wire. You will need to add a little something at the end of the tube where it overlaps the wire.

It is quick to create this joint and can easily be cut off.

"it," you do mean the servo connection, correct?

Yes that would probably work. I assume that Vaseline in non-conductive? Heat shrink on the connection would work also, but I did want something that was as simple as a quick plug-in, unplug connection. None the less, I'll try the petroleum jelly and if I experience difficulties, use heat shrink. Thanks guys for your suggestions.
