How to straighten out...

...a spinner back plate?

I'm putting together an Extra 260 from AeroWorks, and it comes with a standard white plastic spinner. I have a very nice polished spinner from my recently deceased E-flite Extra 300.

I put power to the airplane last night, and I could see the spinner back plate wobbling. Checked, and double checked that the motor shaft is OK, and it is. The prop adapter, that goes thru the back plate is fine, so it's definitely the back plate.

Any suggestions on how to straighten it? I did disassemble it, put it in a vice, and gave it some calibrated taps, but its no better. I don't have a lathe, mill, or accurate drill press to try and turn it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks, Daren

Re: How to straighten out...

You know... I have played with a variety of items that needed repairs with varying degrees of success, and over the years and my grand conclusion is that SOMETIMES it is cheaper, easier, faster and safer to just throw away the item and buy a new one...

In this instance... I believe that this would be a sound decision...

Yours to consider.

Hi Rob, yep thought of that too. It is a $30 spinner, but with it not being very true, it's going to shake the crap out of the motor and airframe. Lose a $75 motor, a $300 airframe...

I was just thinking if it was turned on a lathe or milled .040, it might be OK.
