hands down the best sounding model aircraft engine. I like the sound of the big moki radials and turbines but this one wins.

Re: Happy Nitro flyers let's hear from you!

I've seen the Mustang vid a while ago and have to agree the sound is the closest to original as anything out there. Interesting when he pushes it if the bark is from the exhaust or the prop.

However, not to start an argument I feel pressed to point out a couple of items. First is that it's hard to tell from the video, but that sure seems to be pushing the limits for noise output. Also, it's gas.

O/K. Now I'll duck.

Re: Happy Nitro flyers let's hear from you!

ok fine, electric flyer here putting his 2 cents in

When i started out i started electric simply because it was easier and cheaper to get into. Pop a battery in and zoom! Granted us electric flyers just don't have the energy density advantage you nitro flyers do, but electric vs nitro is also a different mindset.

Now that i'm mostly into FPV flying, i miss the flight times i know i could get with a nitro or gas flyer, and maybe some day i will actually get into one, but to be honest i think most of us electric flyers simply don't get into nitro or gas because with electric, we just deal with an on/off switch, and with nitro/gas there's a lot more work

Re: Happy Nitro flyers let's hear from you!

All good points and I too fly electric helis and planes. In fact both commonly come to the field with me side by each with their nitro brethren.

When they make the Fusionex plasma cell small enough to fit each of my craft, exhaust will be a fading memory, (but then my DeLorian will also likely be in the shop).

Re: Happy Nitro flyers let's hear from you!

I consider the extra effort or as stated "a lot more work" of flying a nitro or gas model as being an enjoyable part of the Hobby. The only time "work" comes into this hobby is when it's field maintenance time.
I agree Gary that Mustang is most likely well above our club sound guidelines for anything other than maybe special demo flights.

Re: Happy Nitro flyers let's hear from you!

I have been in this hobby for over 50 years now. There was NO such thing as electric models then. I started out with an .049 control lines and progressed through larger 2 strokes to now running mostly 4 strokes from .25s up to 180s. To me there is a certain elegance of an internal combustion engine with all those tiny parts working together to provide the power for my enjoyment. I am sure there are some advantages to electric power, but for me to abandon all the support equipment I have and start over with electrics is a little bit of a bite in the pocket on a retirement income. Besides, learning a whole new system, (watts, t/volt, esc, bec,) is not for an old fart like me who has gotten set in his ways. I did fly a friends electric P51 for several flights. No complaints about the performance but, all through the flight it felt as though there was something missing. Besides a high speed pass down the runway with the P51 going WHEEEEE just didn't do it for me. Not for me, thanks.

Re: Happy Nitro flyers let's hear from you!

I agree with you Brian it's not work for me either when it comes to getting my glow planes set up.I love my glow engines.Glow will be around for many years to come. It's great to hear the stories from the guy's.Glow may take a little more time to set up but when i go flying i'm in no hurry.I am greatful to those i have learned from over the years about setting up glow engines. For those who do not know or do not wish to use the nitro engines are missing out on the best part of the hobby in my opinion.
