Not sure if my engine is big enough to post here?
Hey guys I have a JC 28 and have had trouble problem solving something since I got it.
Its brand new and I have no spark I sent the ignition back and they found that it had spark and was working fine. I argued that I had worked with gas planes before and knew how to test for spark and that it must be something else. They sent it back with a new sensor and so I swapped out the sensor and hooked the ignition up again with no spark. I have tried three different batteries no switch's hooked up just plugged directly in to the ignition spark plug out spark plug in grounded to the engine still no spark. Am I totally out to lunch or do I have a bad ignition and they lied to me? Could it be the magnet isn't magnetized or something? What else could it be? Thanks for reading and helping me with my post |

It sounds like a bad ign. to me but....have you tried a different plug also?
The magnet could be upside down. Wouldn't be the first time! Do you have another gas engine you could try it on? |

Also check the gap between the hall sensor and the magnet.
Maybe its a mounting issue of the hall sensor. Never pay again for live sex! | Hot girls doing naughty stuff for free! | Chat for free!

Re: Not sure if my engine is big enough to post here?
What would the maxinium gap allowance be? As well any easy way to get the magnet out? And no I don't have another bird I could test it on: (
Thanks |

Re: Not sure if my engine is big enough to post here?
First of all, no need to ground the plug cover on the engine for testing It's all done with the shiny metal cap Just place it where you can see/hear it fire......
My bet is that the sensor magnet is in fact installed backwards...... so, unplug your new sensor from the cdi unit, and plug in the old one, but don't mount it. Get yourself a small magnet. Canopy magnet, one from the fridge, something. pass it by the underside/end of the sensor, and see if you get spark. If no, flip the magnet over so the opposite pole passes the sensor, and try that. If you get spark, your magnet is backwards Most magnets will work, although I haven't had much luck with the flat fridge type magnets. Easy enough to troubleshoot this way, especially if they claim the CDI is working correctly. As for 'removing' the current magnet, use a SHARP drill bit, about 1/2 the diameter of the magnet, and carefully drill into the center. Not too deep, but deep enough. It'll probably chip the magnet a bit while drilling. If not, it's even better, as you can flip the bit over once the hole is drilled, and pry the magnet out. Harder part might be finding a replacement magnet to fit. You may get lucky with replacement governor magnets.........or see if the MFG can send you a new one Hope this helps HC

Re: Not sure if my engine is big enough to post here?
what size battery you using for the ignition? also is your plug all the way into the cap. They can be tight to get in?
Here are some better ignition instructions. From what I see here the sensor magnet can be turned around without any drilling. be sure to pay attention to the way the wedges are put in based on instructions. http://www.cncengines.com/rcexelcdi.pdf Last edited by aceplant00; 04-20-2011 at 08:50 AM. |

Re: Not sure if my engine is big enough to post here?
The magnet is in upside down and I am having a heck of a time getting it out.
Suggestions? a little scared to drill as it just wants to shatter and I tried a heat gun but it's not budging |
