Engine choice??
Hey all!! After 6-8 months of looking I was able to pick up a new never flown Hanger 9 Showtime 90. It came with an Evolution 1.20 nx new in box. Got it all for a really good deal. Now my decision is which engine to run? Evolution 1.20 nx or my spare dle 20cc?? I have gas and nitro so two fuel jugs is not a problem.
What would you guys use?? Thanks |

Re: Engine choice??
Either is a good choice.
BUT... I prefer the DLE the gas engines are so much easier to tune, and maintain. Nitro engines just need more... attention. IMHO...

Re: Engine choice??
IMHO. The Evo is new in box. Leave it in the box and sell it. Take the spare engine that otherwise doing nothing. Mount it and use it.

Re: Engine choice??
I have been researching both options. Dle 20cc lots of cowl cutting to fit(stock or Pitts), Evolution 1.20 nx needs Pitts, or big extension to run exhaust, cowl cutting, nitro little messy. Was thinking electric but would need to buy parts, defeats the purpose of getting the airframe cheap. Plus I think 8s is the way I would want to go and I don't run any 8s planes, so more batteries to buy. I think I may go with the Dle 20.

Engine choice??
As suggested, if were me... bolt on the DLE. You already have it. It is hp and $ sitting on shelf dusting and rusting otherwise. Assuming you've already run it in something. So you know how it runs and what it needs for prop fuel etc. Go with what you have and what you know. Anything else will add time in learnings and expense. Sell the Evo. Use the cash to buy gas for the DLE for the whole year, the deal that keeps on giving. So what about the cowl. 50' out and boring holes in the air nobody notices or cares. Especially when its a Showtime that is showing off.

Re: Engine choice??
Looks GREAT! On cowled engines. You will have to do your checks and figuring of cowl openings for good cooling air flow. Open ports and close off ports to direct as much as possible to the head fins. Not sure what everyone else uses, but I go for sum of all behind the head openings having a surface area of 2.5 times larger than the sum of all in front of head openings.

Re: Engine choice??
To fit the muffler and plug and plug wire most of the bottom of the cowl will need to be cut out. Should have enough air flow after that. Just have to move the throttle servo up front and finish the pull pull system then can fire it up on this airframe. I was surprised that even with the dle 20 coming in a bit heavier then the saito 125 my old one had, I was still tail heavy. Move servo mount battery up front should balance at that point.
