Bumper thoughts

My Baja 5B has front disk brakes and the cables hang way out the front. Well, I'd like to put a bumper on it to protect them. Now all the 5B bumpers I have found are all these tiny things that are not going to provide the protection I want. The question I have is, has anyone out there tried to fit a 5T bumper to a 5B and how much tweaking is there to make it fit. The one I have been eyeing is, http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...783102369.html also looking to add this, http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...651619015.html on the back.

If anybody can give some insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Bumper thoughts

Igloo Racing make some very nice bumpers. Plus they are Canadian and will sell direct to Canadians in Canuck Bucks.

Re: Bumper thoughts

I have the igloo bumper. It's a nice stout piece
The only thing I don't like is the so called front stiffener they added. This SS plates slot is routered way to big for the plate and as such would allow it to move. This movement would damage the frame as it would gouge it as it moves. Also the plate is not bent properly and looks to be cut on a band saw than a grinder taken to the ends to round them (not very professional).
The plate would serve as a stiffener if the slot for it in the bumper was cut to size and the plate epoxied to it. This would make them one piece. As it is it serves no purpose
I did send an email off to them about it but got no response (this states who you are dealing with). I don't like companies that do not respond to my concerns. Maybe they wil, read this and I will finally get a response. Lol

Again it is a very stout piece and will remain on my Baja until something better comes along or I get bored and make my own. It's also Canadian made!

Re: Bumper thoughts

Well isn't that odd Dan.

My experience with Igloo was the total opposite.

I PM'd Ryan, (the sole proprietor of Igloo, "Ryeguy" on another well known large scale forum) about an issue I had and he made it right for me. I turned up on his doorstep with my bumper, showered him the defect, and he gave me another one right on the spot.

Perhaps try reaching out to him that way???

Re: Bumper thoughts

Don't get me wrong
I'm not saying it's not a good bumper, it is. Just could be so much better.

He answered me several times promptly prior to purchase but after I got nothing.
It was clear to me they wanted the sale.

The issue is not a defect but a flaw in the design
Btw I found them on that same forum

To the op. Don't hesitate to get this bumper! I chose not to install the plate. It's very supportive without it.

Dan

Re: Bumper thoughts

Sorry guys, that has got to be the ugliest bumper I have ever seen. Besides, I'm looking for more coverage than that provides.

Re: Bumper thoughts

DLed the manual for the 5SC and compared it to my 5B manual. Connection points all appear similar, so am ordering http://www.aliexpress.com/item/baja-...651618678.html . I'll let you all know how things turn out. I'll see about some pics as well.

Re: Bumper thoughts

Not really, on closer examination, the 5B and the 5SC/T are virtually the same vehicle. There are a couple of minor differences like the body mounts and the wheels, but the front end looks like the exact same parts. I have all confidence that it will work, I also have a Dremel tool if needed. Besides, if it doesn't work on my 5B, I was looking at a 2nd hand SC from a friend. It needs an engine and a pipe and I have both, so he's asking less than 300.00 for it. Great deal IMO. Or I may trade him a couple of N gauge train engines he's been eyeing up. Either way, it feeds my 1/5 scale monster.
