Prop for Sig SE with a saito .80?

Hi
I have a Sig SE with a Saito .80, I sttoped flying the plane two years ago and I want to fly it again this year. I usually flew it with a 14x5 or 13x8 if I am not mistaken. It currently has a 13x6 but never flew with this prop. I remember the SE did not have a good vertical and did not hover well for such an engine.
What prop do you guys recomend for this set up for good hovering and if possible unlimited vertical..
Thanks

I'll second the 14x4W APC. I have a UCD 46 with a Saito 100 and a 15x4W APC. It works great. With that kind of plane you want lots of torque and little speed. Go with the biggest diameter/lowest pitch prop that will let the engine run in the specified rpm range. It should hover for a joke with the 14x4W on it.

I just installed a Saito .91 in a Funtana and was not sure what prop to use. I had a discussiion with Chad a week or so ago and he reminded me how important having the right prop is for the performance your looking for. And the fellow at my LHS said exactly the same thing as Chad, large diameter low pitch and he recommended an APC 14 X 4 so that what I purchased. Haven't tried it out yet but from what I'm seeing here I am sure I have made the right choice.

prop

DO you guys think the Saito .80 is strong enough for the 14x4W? What about the 13x4W?

I run a Saito 80 in my H9 Pizazz, with an APC 13-6.

UNLIMITED vertical? Thats a joke! This thing will go out of sight in seconds...

Hovering is NO problem, and I am not a 3D king...

The plane weighs just over 5 pounds..

A 13x4W and 13x6 are close to the same load like maybe a 200 rpm different with the 13x6 being a little heavier.

What rpm were you running it Andrew? My YS 63 spins both of those props up around 11.8K and rips my 5.25lb Flip3D out of sight in no time

Chad, I think it was somewhere close to that (11,5000)

All I know is that a Something extra is lighter than my Pizazz, and a healthy saito 80 will easily haul it around..

Maybe I should try a 14-4 though, I notice it is hard to slow it down with the 13-6, even at idle it wants to keep flying..

Holy man, keep that motor, power to spare

Ya the 14x4W would probably work really good, with the extra cubes the 80 should spin it easier than the 63 will. I dont like the 14x4W on the 63 because its just a little much at our altitude. The 13x4W is better than the 13x6 for sure, I find doing harriers etc with the 13x6 on the Flip too hard because its too easy to get a blast of speed from it. Although it climbs to altitude much faster I bet you really like the 14x4W over the 13x6 though... Plus you will probably get faster spool up times.....[/quote]

Chad, I goofed, the saito 80 turns the 13-6 at 10,500 NOT 11,500....

Found my paperwork from last year, but thats on 15% fuel.

Still plenty of oomph for a 5 pound aircraft!
