I'm currently also working of getting my 1/4 scale Nosen P51 ready for Maidenfest, yesterday i had to take off ugly aluminum foil covering off from ignition module section. Now i'm left with sticky adhesive residue on this section, it's has been fiberglassed previously but i have no clue on type of resin used to do it, so what can i use to get rid of this adhesive from this part so i can get it ready for primer n paint without damaging the surface...

Thinners,
Acetone,
Varsol

or

what??

Re: How to take off old adhesive from a fiberglassed section?

Have you tried methanol? I have used it in the past for a multitude of purposes. On glued surfaces I drape a rag soaked with it atop the surface as it wets the adhesive much longer. In some cases rubbing the offending area with the wetted rag IN ONE DIRECTION repeatedly helps lift it or roll it off.

It should not harm cured epoxies or poly resins.

Try WD40 ... and if it works then clean off the WD with rubbing alcohol

I'm a fan of Brake Clean! Comes in spray cans, not flamable but will remove not only glue but a lot of different paints too. I doubt that it would effect fiberglass. Evaporates very quickly so you have to work fast!

It works exceptionally well to draw the oil out of oil soaked wood! Oh! And don't use it in enclosed spaces, it gets really stinky really fast!!

I would leave it alone. It looks cool. Like the Iron Man mask!

Your not going to maiden your Lockheed Constellation?

Don't forget to let me know when you maiden it. I want to video it and post it on my youtube channel.
