Minimizing Repair Costs

A few weeks ago with my T-Rex 550 had a confrontation with gravity & I lost causing all my servos to have stripped gears (DS615). After replacing the gears I decided to revert back to the stock plastic servo horns to hopefully create a weak link.

Another area that gave me problems in the past was if the tail blades hit deep grass it would strip the tail gears in the front tail case. So I changed the front gears to the black ones & the back ones to the softer white ones, easier to change. Another weak link I hope, had not a mishap since to verify.

On the 450s with torque tube driver I changed the landing skids for ones off a 500 raising the back rudder blades. Much better clearances on landings.

Re: Minimizing Repair Costs

For sure.

Its always good to have at least one weak(est) link in your control system. Hopefully something not too expensive and easy to repair.

Then you should carry spares of that weak link in your flight box so that they are handy when you crash.

Re: Minimizing Repair Costs

Spares don't help me when I crash! Lol it's usually a full rebuild costing hundreds of dollars! But as the title says MINIMIZING, I agree. Plastic horns will definitely help servos. I'm scared to use them cause I sometimes have a fast hard correction to save myself from a crash. Not sure how strong the plastic horns are. Do they handle hard abrupt maneuvers?

They came stock with the helicopter, the canopy says 3D, so I would think they can take whatever you can throw at it Stewart. I only fly with gentle movements except just before impact.
