I received a short subscription to the magazine after I placed an order for some equipment a while back and got the latest issue last night. I noticed a picture of Chip Hyde in a Futaba ad, was a bit of a surprise to me. I haven't been active in the hobby for 14-15 years and I remember him coming on the scene in the early 90's or so as quite a talented youngster. He is a lot older now than I remember him.

Funny how he aged so much in the interim and I haven't hardly changed at all. Or so I would like to think.

Well since you state it like so, he is an Albertan or are you a migrant from out east?

Re: Latest Model Airplane News

I noticed the Futaba ad in the same issue but what struck me was how they have completely cut Jason Shulman out of the picture (literally). It is not surprising given the nasty trouble he has gotten into but he also used a Futaba radio to win the third position on the US National Pattern team. I remember stories in the old RCM magazine about this young kid (Chip Hyde) who was a hot shot pilot at a very young age. I must be getting old as well!

I'm a migrant from not too far east. Originally from S.E. Saskatchewan or as I like to call it "The Promised Land"

Well, I get constant reminders about the promised land when I go there, or they come to my humble forrest!!

They are scared of black bears but love the wild blue berries we have here, never seen a person sing for 4 hrs straight while picking berries bent over. The funniest sight really!!

(in-laws that seem to like me more than her the wife says)

So Chip is a Saskatchewany?

Chip Hyde is an American so far as I know. My point was, I haven't heard much about him for 17 or 18 years and was kind of surprised when I saw his recent picture, he is definitely not the kid anymore that I remember.

He has still been in the Pattern scene over the last number of years.

But I believe he took a break from pattern competition for a while and was pylon racing.
