Wanted Round Cowl

I had a little accident, well, a major one, and I am looking for a new cowl without holes if possible. The cowl that I need is round, 6 inches in diameter, with a length of 6 inches, for an AT-6 look alike. The first one got crumpled beyond repair!!!!

Thanks for looking

I looked there, Eric, and the price is almost more than the total aircraft. I was hoping to find one from someone that might have a spare, but will probably order from there in the end.

Thanks for the response.

Re: Wanted Round Cowl

Try looking at all of your wife/girlfriends cleaning supplies..

A round bleach or fabric softner plastic bottle sometimes can work awsome as a cowl..

Just a thought

Re: Wanted Round Cowl

My greatest ressource for round cowls were the dollar stores and the nick-knack stores in the pots and pans dept. they are usualoly thin aluminum and all that is required is to remove the handle and with a dremel tool cut off the lip sand and and remove an opening for the prop shaft. Any store for that matter could potentially provide the item that can easily be converted.

Thanks for all the great ideas fellas, it is muchly appreciated, and something I will look into. I had a need for a pilot once and another modeler sent one to me FREE, not even asking for postage, but I returned a check for his costs anyway in appreciation for his efforts. No reason he should be out the money, and I am not that poor that I cannot afford some shipping, even though I am on a pension!!!

As for yours Kent, please send a pix to my email address at CdnFlyer@shaw.ca. You may have a deal, and I will remeasure the 'old' crushed cowl again in a couple of minutes to let you know what I find.

I screwed up here are the 'real' dimensions:

Diameter at rear - 6-1/2 inches
Outside Diameter at front - 6 inches to 6-1/4 depending upon where I measure it
Engine opening at front - 4-1/2
Length - 4-1/2 (a new one can be longer and I will trim to fit)

I thought about attempting to rework the old one, but would be a major repair with CA, filler, fibreglas cloth and resin.

Thank you all for your assistance.
