Modified F27 Stryker

Anyone else running modified strykers?

I ran a stock stryker for about a year but after a bad crash I ended up building another one with a brushless power system.

The difference is absolutely amazing. I go vertical at half throttle.

Have a look:

If you have a stock stryker the easiest upgrade is to change the battery to a 3S 2100mah Lipo. It will give you a good power boost but your motor will wear out quicker.

Other than that if you want to go brushless I'd suggest you put your stock stryker aside and buy a new fuse (their really cheap) and build a new brushless system around it. Parkzone electronics are not compatible with standard RC electronics.

I built my Stryker so that it could pull about 30Amps, here are the specs:
Servos: HS81MG
Rx: GWS 4 channel
ESC: El Cheapo 30A
Motor: Align 400LF (2500kv)
Prop: 6x4
Battery: LiPower 2200mah 15C (33A continuous)
Elevons: Balsa
Vert. Stabs: Coroplast

A lot of others are running Mega 16/15/3 motors with 2200mah batteries and 35A CC ESC's quite successfully but I went with the cheaper motor/ESC.

Leon.

I've flown my stryker without the nose cone before, it didn't seem to affect the flight very much. I'd wittle another one out of a peice of foam. I've seen somewhere online a replacement nosecone made out of a nerf ball.

I bought the new Stryker kit which comes like the regular Stryker less electronics. I installed the brushless motor and CC speed control from a Zagi Tazz with a Poly Quest 2100mah at 20C, the standard 5x5 zagi prop and an electron receiver with HS81's. I am pulling about 33 amps static and I would say it is going about as fast as my Tazz which would be 80 mph+. It goes vertical with no problem forcing me to turn around before I lose it.

Hey Leon, how fast do you think yours is reaching. I think you have more torque or push for vertical with the 6x4. Have you tried a 5x5, the Zagi 5x5 is excellent and will give more speed.

I'm really not sure how fast my stryker goes, I've never had any way to measure it's speed. Although I'm in the process of trying to get enough hotwheels toys for my son so that I can get the free radar gun. http://www.hotwheels.ca/promotions/R...nOffer-eng.pdf

I've used a variety of props for the stryker but I like the 6x4 the most. It provides a good deal of thrust.

If I were to build another one I'd spend the extra $ for a Mega rather than use the chaper Align. I've had trouble with my Align motors.

Leon.

PS I'm not sure what kind of Nerf ball it was, I tried searching for the original reference but couldn't find it....

Hey Leon,

I got some real numbers from the Stryker. I thought I was pulling about 33 amps because I saw a review with the exact same set up on a Zagi Tazz which is where I got the motor, cc esc and prop. I measured 39 amps and 24,000 rpm static with the 5x5 prop and a 3c Poly Quest right off the charger.
