Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

Is it just me, or is anyone else having trouble unscrewing servo arm screws from Hitec Servos. I have been told to, upon purchase, immediately replace them with Dubro 2.5 mm X 8 Socket Head Cap Screws. I have used the Dubro ones to replace those which I have stripped. I think it is just a matter of time before I strip the philips head screw from every Hitec I own, so I might as well take this advice. Other than the above, I have had no problems with Hitec servos and would say that I rather like them. If you are able to unscrew them without a problem, please tell me how you do it. . . Cheers

Re: Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

Lots of pressure, small screw driver, nort a problem. I believe you should be using JIS screwdriver not Philips. Slight difference, but lots of pressure works for me.

Re: Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

definately use JIS screwdriver - modify your philips by grinding the tip to be "more square"

then replace them with hex style get a bag of them.

Re: Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

Are these the metal gear Hitec servos because I thought they required 2.6 x 8mm
I have used an HPI product I found @ GH #HPIZ421 1 pkg 12 pcs

NOTE these are socket head => NO more worries about phillips heads

Re: Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

Thank you very much. I see that I am not the only one who has had troubles in this area. Before I grind a Philips screw driver as suggested, what is a JIS screw driver and where can one be found for purchase? I double checked and I did replace one on a metal geared servo and 2.5 mm is the correct size. Appreciate the input. Cheers

Re: Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

I believe JIS is Japanese Industrial Standard.

And here's a thread (camera related) that discusses their availability
http://support.conurus.com/viewtopic.php?t=10

and two sites that sell them

2.6 is the dia. you want, I thought 2.5 was the size, on one setup I thought I poped the head off the 2.5 hex head, turned out the threads have very little bite I did some measuring with a micrometer and they can very.
So 2.6 is a much better fit.

Re: Hitec - Servo Arm Screws - problem

This thread has produced some great info. Thankyou very much. I think it might be easier and perhaps even less expensive to just change the screw with a 2.6 as suggested. (the 2.5 that I used was on a metal geared trottle servo on my 50 cc edge - it seemed to fit fine, however if the 2.6 is safer then sobeit) If those JIS screw drivers could be purchased locally that might be the answer. Will hit the Florida flea markets soon - will give me something to look for. . . Cheers
