On Tower Hobbies' website it had said at one point on this plane that they don't recommend using the OS 5 cylinder radial. Anyone know why that is?

Re: question about Top-flite Giant scale Corsair

I have built this airplane and used a DA50 with no issues. It did require a couple of pounds lead in the nose for balance.

Re: question about Top-flite Giant scale Corsair

weak engine mount area might account for it, but I think I'll need to get one and see if the cowl fits...

Re: question about Top-flite Giant scale Corsair

I have seen this plane fly very successfully with a G62 for power with no engine box issues...triangle stock and epoxy work wonders...as with most warbirds, a lot of nose weight is required to balance them unless you really lighten the tail feathers

Re: question about Top-flite Giant scale Corsair

Hi

If I may add to this :

Tri-stock is good and so is fiberglass ,........... BUT , the strongest bond that you can get is to cross grain . Have you ever tried pinning . It,s putting wood dowls in the bonded wood . I have have built several planes with very overpowered engine , and have NEVER had a problem with the firewall comeing off or unbonding . And , ............. YES I have seen firewalls come appart , that have been very well fiberglassed , but it only grabs the surface grain .

Infact ,........ I have had planes decintigrate , but the firewall has remaimed in tact .

Just a thought ,............ 2 cents

Michel
