Mervin, I thought you would chuckle.
It might be the rural background.

Re: Lead sleds

This is a pic of one of the "lead sleds" I built in my younger days. None of my pics from those days have been digitized yet, so this is the only pic I have in my data dase. 37 Ford humpback with a "chisel chop", 4.5 " from the front posts and 3.5 " from the rear posts. This is when the term "lead sled" actually meant something and commanded respect . The title caught my eye.

Note I had hair in those days.

Re: Lead sleds

Hi Bill;

I do wish I still had that ride, frankly I wish I had most stuff I have had in my life, but where would you keep it.

Here's a short list of cars that have been through my hands since age 15, 36 Ford pickup with a 324 Olds, tower top tranny, 52 pontiac sedan, Hurst shifter, baby moons, wide whites, dummy spots with "----- Lures", I bet a lot of people don't know what they are, 57 chev convertible, 283, 61 chev impala 2 dr hartop "bubble back" roof with a 348, 66 chev malibu 2dr hardtop, 327 4 speed, 37 ford chopped and loaded, full time driver for 10 years, put a ton of miles on it with the family, won Toronto motion car show in first time shown sedan in 1978 Drove allover USA and Canada as far west as Denver, south to Oklahoma and Florida and everything in between, 49 chev sedan delivery, mostly restored, Florida truck, 48 dodge business coupe w 302 ford, chopped, shaved, decked, rolled pans, frenched headlights, did not finish. Also built a killer 36 ford 5 window coupe :california kid" car for my friend. "big" small block chev, full chop, 6 point roll cage, 4 bar rear, mustang II IFS, AC, Hand rubbed black lacquer with a killer flame job. Car ended up out west.

Memory lane. You know how it goes when you have a lot of interests.

I also had to fit in marriage, 2 kids, being in business since I was 20, RC Planes, Divorc, Fly Fishing and Fly tying, remarried, and I sailed for years, we owned a CS 27 for about 7 years and sailed out of Wiarton.

I still will own a hammered 49 merc lead sled in the next 10 years! I keep looking to buy a "finished project car" that someone has lost interest in so I can put my touch on it.

I love everything mechanical and love to figure out how things work.
