The K80 and 100 are of the same dimension according to the website so there is no problem installing the engine. I did find that in cooler weather less than 10 C I have some residual thrust left over that with the help of a little crow makes landings slower and easier to pin point. Above 22 C and its no problem. The airframe flys well on the 60 series turbines. Weight wise - I place all the components as far forward as possible and only had to add 4 oz of nose weight so my K100G powered Xcalibur is probably no more than 3/4 lbs heavier than a 60 powered one.

I have been very impressed with this jet and would recommend it as a short, grass field every day jet or for the new turbine operator.

Cheers

I'm drooling over one :0 what parts & servos did you put in it ? Any pictures ?

Re: Secret project in da house

I used 3 X Jr 8411 ( elevator, ailerons X2 )
1 JR 821 for steering
1 Savox 1256 on flap
2 Spectrum 5040 for rudders
2 A123 2300 mah receiver packs
1 3800 A123 ECU 9.9 volt
1 Boomerang dual switch
MAP UAT
Stock gear set up with supplied airsupply
Jettronic electronic gear valve
UP2 brake valve
You will need 10 18 inch extensions
Several 6 inch extension depending on receiver placement.

I will post pics when able

Dean

Sorry to post on a long ago thread about to purchase one of these
AFIK - the 80 and 100 are the same case size so the 80 should fit fine. The 100 I saw in Deans plane was a "snug" fit so certainly not anything bigger. The question I would have to ask is unless you already have the 80, why would you not just get the 100? It's the same engine just cranked up a bit and only 150 bucks more....

If you are serious about getting into jets, I would highly recommend this combo for you.

Where are you flying jets near Nanaimo? I was only aware of one field over that way that had significant flyover issues and inaccessible land for dealing with a worst case indecent. The club contacted me for assistance ~2 years back and the result was a no-go decision for jets...

Sorry to go off topic, just curious...

Re: Secret project in da house

Thanks for that. Just looked at the web site, not the club I was referring to earlier. Good to know there is a suitable field in those parts. I had no idea... I wish i had a strip like that near Vancouver!

i thought there was one ?

Our field isn't that big. But it's enough for the Boomerang elan.

Re: Secret project in da house

I forget the name, but it was a club surrounded by huge razor sharp bushes on one side, and the land around the field was largely inaccessible. it would have made an emergency recovery of a downed model nearly impossible. In worst case - (in the unlikely event of a fire) it could have been pretty dangerous. I gave the club some input on how to assess the risks, and they decided that jets weren't a good idea. I was OK with that, its the ones that make an emotional decision (for fear of the unknown, or politically driven) that I have a problem with...

That said, most clubs still hesitate to take the same approach with Li-po powered aircraft, but that's for another day...
