Saito 150 flex pipe

I find my flex pipe on my saito about 1" longer than I want it. I called Horison about shortening it 1" and they told me it was "tuned" and the engine wouldn't run well if I did that. Does anybody have any practical experience with this??? I know we all use extensions, aftermarket exhausts etc and I have had no problems before with exhaust changes.

If I keep the restrictor on the end and still have some back pressure, will it still perform. I got the feeling I was getting a "probably" answer from Horison rather than a "for sure" answer.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Saito 150 flex pipe

Those pipes come in different lengths so as for it being tuned, not a chance.

Its the type of answer given by those "supposed" to be in the know that makes me wonder about the quality of people on the staff of some outfits. Can you trust anything else they tell you?

Re: Saito 150 flex pipe

A tuned flex pipe? I think not. To be tuned for a four stroke a pipe would have to be about four times the length of the plane. And a special type of shape. And a whole bunch of other things. Get the torch out and shorten it without fear. You won't notice any difference.

Re: Saito 150 flex pipe

I shortened it shortly after I got a couple responses that confirmed my suspicions. I have the plane reassembled and I'll be firing it up tonight. If I don't leave another post, assume there was no change whatsoever.
