Re: D-I-Y Mufflers

You can also do the DIY route and thread the adapter. No welding required.

Re: D-I-Y Mufflers

Ken,
Still have the problem with the sholder and I have my ups and downs. Hope you are doing well since the last time I saw you. Some day will have to make a trip up. Maybe when I need some heli parts from Garret.
Take care,
John

Re: D-I-Y Mufflers

Many years ago I built a few oil separater mufflers, when oroperly designed they can be held together with sheet metal screws and a metal bonding epoxy I got some from Brafasco called Speedy Bond. It is a lot easier if you start with a muffler front. I have made several pipes and mufflers lately and I just take them to the local aluminum welding expert and it usually cost twenty or thirty dollars.

Re: D-I-Y Mufflers

Made a few mufflers here. Hard silver solder or brazing works very well. One that worked very well as far as silencing goes, was for a Quadra 42. The pipes on the inside of the muffler were pinched of on the inner end so there was only a slit about 1/16 in. About every 1/2 in., the pipes were slit with a hacksaw about 3/4 of the way through all the way to where they exit the muffler. As the exhaust went through the slots, it disrupted the pulse flow through the pipes. Runs very quiet with no loss in power. Made another one like yours John, with two mower mufflers side by side for a quadra 52.
