My Canada 150 project
My Canada 150 project is to resurrect my nitro ducted fan Avro Arrow that my Dad and I built in 2003.
I have been working on this a little at a time after the last time I crashed it 3-4 years ago, but this year I am working full steam. It is a project to celebrate Canada this year as it is a very Canadian aircraft, but it I am also doing it as a tribute to my Dad, Ed Prang, who passed away March 15, 2016. He and I spent a lot of time together in this hobby and has been very difficult moving forward. I have had great support from my friends in this hobby that has made it a bit easier. What is left: -finish filling and sanding the damage areas. -prep and paint. -install new JR DMSS rx and program radio (It last flew with DSM2, but I no longer have any). -plumb and install new fuel tanks. -install engine and pipe. -test run and double check everything. I am planning the test flight for the Friday at Wingham Jets.

Re: My Canada 150 project
Steven,
Please post pictures of the finished project. Growing up, my dad tried to get me interested in flying. It didn't stick. I began flying about 10 years ago and I think my dad and I are closer now than ever. I look forward in seeing how your efforts pay off. |

Re: My Canada 150 project
Hi Steve:
I remember you and your dad flying the Avro at the Otterville Fun Fly. What a great tribute this is to your dad!

Re: My Canada 150 project
I remember meeting you at Thunder Thrust and as someone who watched the real thing fly many times as a kid GET IT DONE. There aren't many out there getting flown at R/C events & hopefully yours once finished will be at an event I attend.
Larry.

Re: My Canada 150 project
Just an update.
I have all the filling and sanding done, most of the programming is finished, white is painted, new fuel tanks installed and plumbed, engine and pipe installed. I don't have any time at the moment to post pics. I am getting ready for our club camp out this weekend (Our new Otterville). I will be running the engine and getting it tuned. Can't wait to hear that engine again. What is left: -finish installing the rudder and control and program. -paint orange and black and put on a few decals. -double check everything and then do it again. Will update after the weekend hopefully with some pics.

Re: My Canada 150 project
Well the engine still runs great even after 4 years of sitting. It started immediately. I also still know how to tune it by ear as I can't seem to find the tach we used and my cheap one won't pick it up in the duct.
I took a picture of it for an update. Well time to get back out and see if I can get the orange painted today. Steven

Re: My Canada 150 project
Well the Arrow is ready to fly.
I have a couple decals to make up for the tail, but that is it! I have attached a picture as well. Back to the basement to see if I can get my other new jet ready. Can't wait for Wingham Jets! Steven

Re: My Canada 150 project
If everything goes according to the master plan I'll do my best to get you a few nice "in air" photos.
