Would never have guessed you haven't been building for years.
You should try a nice 1/4 scale racer next.

Is there something in the works? What would you have in mind Andy?

Hmm. There are many possibilities.
It appears you like speed.
Something modern or something more classic?

I definitely like speed but also unique. Vintage would not matter. What would be a unique race plane? Something to consider down the road...

Re: Second kit build for me - Scat Cat

Hey guys. I think it would be fun to find a racer for Rick so I started a new thread here,
https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/show...25#post3173425
This way we don't take over Rick's build thread.
I call the thread "A big shiny Racer for Rick". lol

Re: Second kit build for me - Scat Cat

Unfortunately I had to work over the weekend so not much done until tonight. I glued on the trailing edge and the wing tips. Tomorrow I can do more sanding to blend everything in.

Re: Second kit build for me - Scat Cat

I had a little more progress tonight. I pulled the orbital sounder out to hog off the excess balsa from the tips and blended the rest in with a hand sander. I also started to apply some light weight spackling compound to fill in the gaps and seams.

Looks really good.... nice tight wood joints. Almost looks seamless in some areas... Nice. Once the wing is done the rest will come together faster than you think.

Re: Second kit build for me - Scat Cat

Thanks D, I prefer foam core wings over build up wings by a long shot. Not much further and I can epoxy both halves together and fiberglass the center.

Re: Second kit build for me - Scat Cat

Here is some info how the Scat Kat became a kit which was produced by Flite Line in the early 80's.
Back in 1976 Gale Helms designed a Quickie 500 called the Haffast 500 and the kits where available from Hobby Barn in Texas for about 25.00 bucks. We where starting to do some Quickie 500 racing at the old Georgetown Club, one of the guys ordered a kit, built it and started racing it.
So a few guys want this plane and we started scratch building from the plans, to save some money, as $25.00 was a lot of money back them. I think we where building them for about $12.00.
Then sometime around 1980 Flite Line who was part of Lone Star Balsa bought the rights to the Haffast and started producing the kits, the only changes was a smaller fin-rudder and a different wing tip.
After that the Scat Kat was the plane to have for racing or just sport flying and still is.
I still have the original drawings of the Haffast.
