Stevens Aeromodel Edge 540

The time has come to retire my Acro Master, and I discovered I enjoy building a fair bit, so the natural progression was to get a kit that could use the power system from the AM, and I could enjoy the process of building in the same project.

The perfect item to fill this need is the SA Edge 540 50"!

I've begun the building process and I must say that it is every bit as nice as I've been told! Everything goes together like a puzzle and all the pieces fit perfectly! I highly recommend it for anyone wanting to try their hand at building!

So far I've got the fuse and tail feathers completed and ready for hinging and covering. I've progressed that far in a few short evenings. Next will be the wings, which I suspect will take me another couple evenings.

For power, I'm going slightly beefier than recommended because I have the setup already from the AM, but everything fits nicely so far. It consists of the Turnigy SK 35-42 1000kv and Castle Phoenix 45A ESC, powered by 3s 2350 and 2500 packs. A bit heavier than recommended, but at 50" the wing loading should still be as light or lighter than my Acro Master.

I'll add some picks of the fuse and progree later.

Tyler

Re: Stevens Aeromodel Edge 540

I built a balsa wing for a Slow Stick from Steven's. It went together very well. It was my first build, and it was a real treat. I keep going back to their website to see what's new.

Please post some photos. Thanks, Daren

Re: Stevens Aeromodel Edge 540

I'm not sure yet on the covering. They recommend ultralight stuff, which makes sense. I'm thinking it'll be yellow and blue, for good visibility. I might try and get some Ultracote Light for it.

It goes together so well, though! I might have to get another one!

I hear Ya! I'm kind of glad weather hasn't been perfect, as it's allowing me to hammer down and get this thing done! We've got a SMALL event coming up this weekend and I'll need this plane for the event! Just final sanding, covering and assembling and painting the cowl left!

I'll post pictures when I get home.

I'm using a Castle Creations Phoenix 45A for this one.
