Cheap cycler/charger

The cheapest Nicd/Nimh charger/cycler I can think of is a modified camcorder unit. It only works for Rx packs though. It automatically senses either 4.8, 6 or 7.2V packs and discharges/charges then switches to a trickle charge. I had never howned a cycler before and this thing has brought many packs I thought were toast back from the dead. The cost? $8.00 at Princess Auto plus a female JR and airtronics end. I soldered the ends together then onto the Positive/Negative terminals which were clearly marked on the unit.

It would be impossible for a battery manufacturer to produce 600ma batteries that would all be exactly the same. Electronics is a world of + / - 10% or 15%. The stated capacity on a battery is a nominal value and the actual value may very well be different. The important thing is to know what the battery measured when it was new so the performance over time can be monitored.
