Added the bungee suspension(2-9"lengths) and the added the aluminum struts which are pre bent, cut and drilled. You just bolt em up,I used my own hardware just for personal preference.Hardware does come with the kit.Next will be lining the gear up with the fuse...

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Hey Steve,

Great job! I've always admired the fellows that model WW1 aircraft. Even though the building materials are pretty run-of-the mill (just like the full scale aircraft), the detail and craftsmanship required to actually build one is impressive. They're so "delicate" and "all out there".

I considered scratch building a DVI from my own plans because I wasn't aware of any commercially available; nevermind the lozenge fabric which only a masochist would try to make themselves. Watching your thread, I think I'll do the 1/4 scale kit route supplied by Glenn Torrance Models

Keep it up. We're close enough that maybe I'll have the pleasure of seeing it in person one day

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Thanks Trevor;Progress has slowed somewhat, god I hate working for a living, nevertheless we'll "get er done" as they say.Ya I heard GTM is planning on doing some 1/4 scale kits soon, the D-VI is a classic, flys nice too.1/4 scale is a lot easier to handle also as the 1/3 D-VI's get up to 50lbs in weight.
I'm still working on the gear, once everythings lined
up,the short pieces of music wire, are added using JB weld.
I hope to get back to your field someday in T.Bay,I was there just visiting back in the late 80's.Is it the same field?By the correctional place?I have a brother in Pickle Lake, and a sister in Nester Falls so someday for sure I'll be up that way.

Yep, same spot. Recently the "farm" has told us that we can't wear orange.

Makes it a little rough for us Futaba guys, lol

If you're ever this way, by all means drop me a line

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Got the music wire installed in the aluminum struts.I roughened up the ends that is inserted into the struts.Cotton batten is also inserted prior to adding the JB Weld to keep it from running down the strut. It went together a lot easier than I thought it would.A bit of tape keeps things lined up.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Keep up the good work Steve, looking forward to seeing the project take shape. Like Trev, I have always had a soft spot for WW1 aircraft, I am partial to the Newport 17.

watching with interest..

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Thanks Bill,I like those Nieuports also..still on the sub-wing,I added some hardwood blocks so I can add a service hatch later on,these bungee suspensions need access for that.I also marked where the struts will exit on the ribs so I can easily locate the cutouts on the 1/32 ply covers. Also started the first sheet of ply starting from the top rear.
