Which radios can the Aurora 9 buddy box to?

Hi,

Does anyone know which radios the Aurora 9 buddy box system can link to?

I assume it can link to other Hitec radios, but what about JR and Futaba?

Thanks for your help.

Wayne

Wayne, I'm not sure about the Aurora specifically but the Hitec buddy cord has a 'student' end and an 'instructor' end, but if you use a Futaba cord with an Hitec, it lets the smoke out.
I can't remember exactly but can go through my files where I have some info, and post the URLs for you. The sockets are the same on Futaba and Hitec but JR seem to use like a small stereo eighth/inch plug - one reference I recall had quite a table of combinations that were go and no-go.
Some even had interfaces you could build to interface.

Re: Which radios can the Aurora 9 buddy box to?

Hi Spitball,

Below are two buddy box sites I use a lot, the first is a list of sample interface cable wiring and the second is a very comprehensive description of how the buddy boxes work, and explains what needs to be done to connect different systems - under EXAMPLES it has many sample cable wiring for buddy boxes. You may want to take a look.

Unfortunately, the Aurora 9 is to new to be listed, but I assume it would be the same as Hitec. I was hoping the new Aurora 9 would have a programming option to select what radio you want to use as slave and then use the proper optional cable. From what I understand, they don't have this as a feature, but it would be to have.

Buddy box sites:
http://www.mftech.de/buchsen_en.htm
http://users.belgacom.net/TX2TX/tx2t...h/tx2txgb1.htm

I do have a conversion cable from JR to Futaba/Hitec that regorganizes the channels to the proper order, but not the other way around. What this basically means is that if I purchase an Aurora 9, I can't buddy box to JR with it.

Thanks for your help.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne

Hi Wayne, to benefit readers of this thread, copy response another forum.

A second Aurora or an Eclipse or Optic 6 are preferred slaves as the trims and mixes are most closely aligned to an Aurora, refer:
Aurora: Trainer / Buddy system Master & Slave function Set-up. for detail of connections and set up.
1.Be aware that there may be some problems surface with the newer Futaba 4/6 ch 2.4 Ghz Futaba systems as they do with other Futaba systems. Futaba should not be used as a slave with Heli as trims/mixes are different.
2. Refer posts #13 & #15 for method to adapt Futaba mini square plug lead.
3. The HAN173 JR/Futaba adapter cable is not compatible with the Aurora (no power supply from either end).
Have tried several methods to operate with JR but no worthwhile result to date.

Re: Which radios can the Aurora 9 buddy box to?

Wayne, have you tried their service/customer e-mail? Some of the makers are particularly helpful, I know Castle Creations/BERG went to great lengths to answer my queries; Futaba very neutral and only gave me the basic information. Others have been more forthcoming.
Try them if you have not already. Meantime I'll check my file but I think you may have the same one I was thinking of.
