Re: Flying boat kits

Wow, that gets into the air in just a flash. Huge climb-out power. Could almost hand launch that with one guy on each wing tip.

Electric flying is pretty much seeing how close to a dead short you can run without setting it on fire.

Re: Flying boat kits

Pretty much anything from Ivan Pettigrew would be extremely light. I think due to the fact most were originally designed for older gen power systems.

Personally I love amphibs, anything with a honking radial like most out of the Grumman "Iron Works", and yes, even the huge Catalina. Also worked on a pair of CL 215 engines while up at Canadore. Have you flown yours off water?

Nope ... never got to that stage. Wanted something that I could primarily fly off grass since we only had (at that time) access to water once a year at one of our fun flys.

BTW guys I found another beaut of a kit that just went into production. It's a HU-16 Albatross one of my all time favs!

Re: Flying boat kits

That's a beaut and fits right into my heavy "Grumman Iron Works" theme. A full-size would definitely be on my "Lust List" if I won the lottery. I think that and fuel would burn through a good chunk of it.

Can you give us the link for the Albatross kit? It's a plane I have admired for quite awhile.

Crap ... sorry about the lack of response Cricklewood, believe it or not I never got the notification from RCC of your response on this thread. As far as a link, sad to say that I waited for a whole year for that kit ad it never did pan out as expected.

Alan, the short kit of the 415 that I got can be found at http://www.sopwithmike.org.uk/html/canadair_cl_415.html
