I've been doing some reading on RCG and apparently all of this was put into motion long before that video was made and posted. No doubt that will help strengthen the need for those rules.

Just to clarify, these rules are mainly being made to distinguish between UAV's and people who are flying FPV (first person video). Apparently UAV's have been flying as "rc models" under the current reg's. Sure the rules may be brought down to other levels of RC in the future, but that's not what the FAA is looking to do. In a couple of places I have read comments from people involved in the rule making, stating that they don't have the man power to police all RC, nor do they care to. These rules are so that they can have the grounds to prosecute in the future if they need to.....like the video Trappy made. At the moment what he did is not illegal......cops were even there when he made that video.

The sky is not falling.....chillax.

Here's a very informative post: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...62&postcount=9

Re: FAA seeks to restrict model aircraft flight

Have to agree with g.p. on this and the post he referenced (Alien Tech aka "Red").

The FAA is looking at how to slice and dice the field to get the most effective set of regulations possible and to make policing and enforcement workable.

Also, the sub-thread by Richard Barlow makes sense. Let the guys at the national/federal do their work without us continuously joggling their elbows, and to do our bit to enforce the current set of rules (whether the MAAC Safety Code or club-level rules).

There's always be silly idiots out there playing silly-bu$$er games. We just can't let them do that on our fields and cost us our flying space.

While it's good news, it's not passed yet guys, it's positive to be sure, but it's still not any guarantee

Good to see government support for our hobby in the USA. Logic might prevail

Re: FAA seeks to restrict model aircraft flight

Actually, anyone got a link to the amendment itself? It would be interesting and education on how the FAA is being restricted WRT model aviation, and especially vis-a-vis the UAV/FPV camera planes.

Re: FAA seeks to restrict model aircraft flight

Thanks! However, I'm going to have to leave it up to people experienced in reading and interpreting legislation to give us the skinny on what it all means. I got a headache from reading it and that was just five minutes of effort.......
