Sig Hog Bipe

Hello All,

I just ordered a Sig Hog Bipe...should be getting it in a week or two...

Just looking for any pics, beefs, building tips, etc., regarding this kit...

I have built a Sig 4*60 two years ago and really enjoyed building and flying it..

So I'm going to give Sig another go and try out their bi-plane...

Sig Hog Bipe....

Joe,

The Sig Hog Bipe is a great kit and a great flying Biplane. I built mine about 4 years ago and have really enjoyed it.

A few things to consider:

Definitely install 2 aileron servos (one in each wing), as the original plans did not call for this, and they have added an optional instruction sheet for this.

Move the landing gear forward about 1/2" and beef up the landing gear area. This will make it easier to handle on grass fields.

Consider putting a fuel tank hatch in the top of the fuse. If you look ahead in the building process, you will notice that once the plane is finished, it is very difficult to access the fuel tank. A hatch on top of the fuse above the fuel tank will solve this problem.

Consider cutting the wood cowl cheeks off, mounting the engine sideways and buying an aftermarket cowl (Fiberglass Specialties) designed for this plane. It makes the plane look much better.

Overall a pretty straight forward build, and a great flying plane. Also, check out this link: http://www.fubarhill.com/sighog.html for tonnes of info about the Hog Bipe...

I built the Hog last winter and looked at Fubar hill for ideas. I did the changes that Grizak suggested except for removing the cowl cheeks. I would suggest moving the landing gear ahead at least 1" from where it shows on the plans. I moved the gear ahead 1/2" and I still have to use full up elevater to keep it from nosing over on the ground. My plane is not balanced nose heavy either as inverted flight requires the slightest touch of down elevator. I have the wheel pants installed and am flying from a short grass runway. Also invest in a better main landing gear. The kit supplied gear works but a harder landing will easily bend it.
I am running a GMS 76 with a 13x6 M.A. prop. Does not give unlimited vertical but it easily hauls this plane around. A good .91 ts would make it a real burner.
Provisions for dual ailerons should come with the kit and I strongly suggest installing them.
Other than that it is a good build and exceptional flyer. I really like mine. You will not regret this kit.

Have fun

Travis

Hog Bipe

Great flying plane which has a satio .91 four stroke for power and ailerons in both wings. Airobatics are mild and it is not tip staley so you can do slow stunts without it snapping on you but it has its limits so be careful.

Funny you guys mention the fubar hill site...I've flown Eric's Hog bipe. I liked it enough to get one of my own.

With a Saito 91, it is absolutely awesome to fly. You can toss it every which way but loose! If you get out of shape, just throttle back and the HB recovers all by itself, then you can carry on......Somehow I was talked into selling mine this past summer.......

Hey Wayne22.... I am sure Geoff will sell it back to you. He is having one hell of a time getting the covering and adhesive off so he can recover it

I built mine completely stock (other than re-shaping the rudder a tad), no issue flying off of grass with the gear.

With a Saito .91 and a 14x6 prop, tons of power and a hoot to fly

Remember nothing flies like a hog

And yeah Eric at Fubar Hill is the king of Hog Bipes

Hog Bipe

Here is a shot of mine.
Flies great I ended up with a GMS .76 on mine and it had loads of power. Very stable and fun to fly.
