I'm assuming you're looking for a 1/8th scale buggy, XRay XB8, Mugen MBX5 and Kyosho 777 are excellent choices.

Keep in mind, whatever buggy you buy, make sure you can have parts easily. The internet can be cheaper but takes longer and is more painful when you want to return something.

XRay XB8, Mugen MBX5R, Kyosho 777 WC, AE RC8, Team Losi 8ight, Jammin X1CR Factory Team, Hoboa 8.5 Pro are excellent choices. Some wear more than others. All will get you to the winners circle.

Personally, I think your decision should flow downwards from a couple of factors.

You may want to ask yourself what the purpose of the buggy would be; is it going to be used for backyard bashing, or are you going to want to bash and then eventually race?

Also, where can you race locally (is there a track near you that is electric, or Nitro, or both)?

And, what is your budget up front and what is your running budget long term.

Some people will throw out a bunch of popular brand names, but you could start out over your head and then find yourself out of the hobby because you purchased something that did not suit your needs and the reality of your individual circumstance.

All of the top manufacturers are well represented here, but first you should answer the important questions which may gate your decision.

The worst thing you can do is buy something and then wish you bought something better. That is why the kits above are listed. Everyone has there favorite. If your looking to bash a RTR is good. For racing the kits above are recommended.

Take your time and look at your choices. There is a price difference.

For a sample of what they are look here.

Talking Hi

Hi,

I would side with Old Car.

I am in the same boat. I am an old electric racer looking for an 1/8th scale buggy. My only hitch is the fact that my wife just gave birth to our first child nevertheless I was doing similar research.

Losi, Mugen, Ofna, Xray, Cen and OCM, Kyosho, Associated are all popular. Based on what you want to do and what you want to spend should be good considerations.

I would recommend reviewing some of the race results and magazine reviews along with feedback from this forum and others. And personal preferance. You need to like the car you are about to buy.

I considered the following:
1) Buggy performance
2) Parts Availability
3) Durability
4) Feedback from experts and friends
5) Personal perferance.
6) Car Experience.(important if you are not comfortable setting a car up on your own.

Just a few thoughts.

Matt Bryan

Still looking for the right Buggy as well

It may seem cheaper when you buy it. Then spending more on worn out parts. It may not be what people like to hear but it's true. There are a couple that are more initially but are better long term.
