Re: Next Heli
The Skookum units are the most popular at the two club fields I fly at. They all seemed to work very well.

Re: Next Heli
Hey guys winter is leaving us and I have nearly finished the T-Rex 500 upgraded to DFC w/Ikon. walked though all the IKON setups leveled the swash etc. When it initializes swash jumps normally then servo 3 (pitch) will pull down a little extra then slowly rise but not back to level immediately perhaps 30 seconds or so. I have adjusted linkages but it seems I get it level and reassemble the head and the same thing is apparent or it is totally different. The consistent thing is that it appears to be the pitch servo.
I was altered to this while doing a little shakedown run and spooling up slowly a few times to double check things. I noticed once I got to about 30% throttle it would want to lift the right skid and tip, throttle hold is your friend! Removing blades and spooling seems to be fun until way up in the throttle where the pitch servo rises significantly again about 75% throttle. I am questioning the one servo or perhaps the IKON FBL both are new the only changes to the servo DS510 are metal gears. Any thoughts? Thanks I am a little nervous on this bird my 150 and 250 are a breeze to get off the ground this one I am not sure of Wayne |

Re: Next Heli
I may have found the issue. After mucking about I read something on the auto-level feature on the unit it gave someone else fits but in his case around orientation. I decided to try a few things. I swapped the Aileron and Pitch servo wires and initialized, the Aileron bumped up the same as the Pitch went down wired correctly. So I eliminate a servo problem in this case least in my mind.
Hooked up the USB and removed the self level feature hooked things up right again and voila things appear normal, re-leveled the swash and things look good through the entire range. Perhaps this is because I am running a 6 channel radio? I know I cannot set up 3 flight modes so I am wondering if that was indeed confusing the FBL. Maybe there is a need to find a DX8. |

Re: Next Heli
I'm not familiar with Ikon, but sounds like you have figured it out. 6 channels is minimal for sure DX8 would be a good upgrade, & they have good deals right now, although they usually do a spring promotion & may offer an even better deal. Good luck with your maiden!

Re: Next Heli
Thanks Channing
I guess we all wish there was some consistency between FBL systems but hey perhaps that is part of the fun. I was thoroughly confused with the pitch settings and still am to some extent, I have some experience with the GPRO and there are some distinct differences. That said I set what I thought was right zeroing from the neutral cyclic and allowing for ~12 degrees of pitch from there. Then 10 degrees of collective. Too nasty out this afternoon with 50++ kph winds so my basement had to be the test grounds for a hover. Lifts right on queue with a flat throttle and pitch setting at about 45% throttle. Hovers well very stable until the rotor wash kicks in not hard to do in a 10 x 20 space. I am a happy helli pilot at this point!! Cheers. |
