XXX-T Diff probs
I have a first gen XXXT Spec truck that has been running great until recently. The diff will not stay tight. I have rebuilt it twice over the last couple of weeks and I get about 2-5 minutes of run time and then the diff spins loose again.
Any ideas what I should be looking for? As mentioned I have completely rebuilt the diff twice now and it will just not stay together.

Thats the part that is getting to me. I have checked and double checked that the screw head is on the right (left) side and it still loosens up.

have you replaced the thrust bearing? if it gets nasty it can cause the diff to loosen, also you can use a small amount of blue threadlock on the diff nut to help it hold tension

Excuse my "newbie'ism". On the old SPEC truck, which is the thrust bearing? I have tried to loctite the nut but to no avail.

the thrust bearing is the smaller balls/plates that are found in one of the diff outdrives, they allow the diff to turn whithout the diff screw changing it's setting
if you look on page 4 of the exploded view http://www.losi.com/ProdInfo/Files/explodedfinal.pdf you will see there is a bearing (a6907) then a small shim (a6230) then the diff plates and balls, that bearing must turn smoothly and the small shim is very important! it keeps the thrust bearing plate touching only the outside of the bearing it is next to, the small shim can be hard to spot, make sure it is in there in the right location

Thanks Dave!!
I see what you are referring to but mine is old school. I do not have that bearing, I have 7 ( I think) concave washers all facing one way except for the last one which is opposite. I don't even have the dog bone out drives, I have the tubed variety. I was thinking of doing a complete retrofit to upgrade it but I don't think the cost of doing so would be worth it by the time I swapped out the outdrives and the axles.

hmmm, there must be a thrust bearing in there somewhere, is it on the other side in the other outdrive? without a thrust bearing the diff will back off almost instantly, did you but the truck used? have you completely taken the diff apart? all the diffs need the coned diff washers or a spring to help hold tension on the diff screw and make diff adjustments easier
