I guess Sammy wants to be known as a "Newbee" now.

I reserve the right to "tweak" as new data become available, but based on historical data (you trust that in the stock markets, too; don't you? ) that's what it looks like. There are always variables that cannot be forseen, like when the numbers dropped off just before a federal election, (can't figure that one! ) and they slack seem to off during Stanley Cup playoffs, although that hasn't seemed to happen this year. (go figure! )
Looks like we hit 5,000 members sometime today (Nov 22). Not sure how many are legit though......

Yeah, but it looks like I really blew it by relying too much on history and not factoring in the site becoming more and more popular. I'll see if I can generate up to date graphs, etc tomorrow to get a feel for the accelerated rate of "enrollment". If we factor out the duplicates and spam mongers, I doubt it would take much more than 100 to 150 off the total.

Dave, there has been some external factors that have skewed the membership total to the point that it is now a meaningless number.

First we had autobots roaming the internet enrolling their masters in every forum they could find. Then everyone put in that secret word that was very hard to read which apparently made it difficult for automated enrollers, but then the scammers discovered RCCanada.

If you look at the membership list, and do an ascending sort by the number of posts, then look at all the names with zero posts, you will find probably hundreds of what I would call insincere members......they are not here because of radio control...they are looking for customers for their various schemes to separate people from their money.... They are easy to spot..they always give their website address ( but be careful though...at least one had a virus, and a lot are pretty hardcore porn sites, the remainder mainly nuisances...)

Bottom line is that the number of MODELERS here is considerably less than the number of members..

We have 2046 members who have zero posts, so among those is a significant number of spammers or potential spammers...(with the websites advertsing every but RC.)

I neglected to mention that some spammers have acturally posted, so those who have not been banned or deleted will be in the count of active RCC contributors....

I'm wondering if there's a way of deleting the inactive members -- those who not only don't post but who haven't been on the website for a month or so.

Yahoo does this with their e-mail accounts -- no visits to you mailbox in the last 60 days or something like that -- email gets sent to your registered non-yahoo account, and then account gets turfed if no visits come up.

Of course, if you're trying to get advertisers to sign up, then the higher body-count is more important than "active users".
