2.4 radio and crash

Hi ! My buddy tried his new cessan this morning and have a little crash in 2 seconds. The cessna flip rapidly ;looks like a interference problem. I noted that his 2.4 antenna was down,I mean not up straight. Is it possible it was the cause ? Thanks ! Paul

Re: 2.4 radio and crash

A bit more information is required. What manufacturer? Futaba, Spektrum/JR or Airtronics?

What receiver battery?

Re: 2.4 radio and crash

Not to sound like a jerk...but it sounds to me that you are not doing proper range checks with both the engine off and running. I've seen flyers getting very lazy when it comes to range checks with 2.4 because they think it is invincible.

Re: 2.4 radio and crash

, it wasnt under votage, we were using a123, spectrum never actually admited their was a problem but got some satisfaction in the end. the undervoltage is a cop out. processor lock up is exactly what happens.

Re: 2.4 radio and crash

you should use a datalogger when setting up a new plane with a spektrum radio.this can help with elimanting any problems on the ground before the plane actually flies for the fisrt time.it will give you an idea if a problem arrise with the radio gear in your plane.i also have older spektrum receivers that should be sent in for updates, but was told by horrzion hobby techs that if my battery voltage stays above the battery cutout threshold i should not be worried.thats why i run dual battery setups on all my planes with power expanders and quality batteries.

Re: 2.4 radio and crash

How far was he away from the airplane when it passed the range check? Did he do a range check? Should be about 30 steps, of 12 meters.
If you encounter a fail on range check, STOP! Repair problem before you throttle up.

Re: 2.4 radio and crash

I found that when doing a range check with the antenna pointed straight at the plane the signal was lost. In talking with Horizon Hobby about this they told me that you should not point the antenna at the plane. I always fly with my antenna bent to avoid this potential problem (hopefully).
