Rare find

This is not model airplane related but definitely in the nostalgia arena. It's been pretty quiet here lately so I hope no one minds.

These popped up for sale on Kijiji the other day so we HAD to check it out! Came home with about 250 of them, the seller kept back about 100 of his favorites for himself. We have had the piano for 18 years or so but only one roll so now we are anxious to get it all working!

Re: Rare find

Oh yes! Most of this stuff is early 1900's!

I'm a pretty old guy and lots of these song titles I don't even recognize!

Re: Rare find

Must be spark.....a little too early for glow.

Very nice Merv, there is something quite ghostly about a piano playing with no one on the seat.
Maybe pianodude could pop out and give it a good tuning.

Bill

It needs it! The last guy we had complained bitterly about "all this junk is in my way let me get rid of it! I can't tune it with all this stuff..." ! And believe me he couldn't! It sounds worse now than when he started!

Re: Rare find

The sister to the player piano is the pump organ that resides in the living room upstairs. All restored and in good working condition. They are both from the same time period.

Actually Bill, now that I think about it... it's earlier than "spark" it's peddle powered!

Re: Rare find

Thanks Dave! I never dreamt we would find those old rolls as they are extremely rare and often too brittle to use. And to find that many in one place in this shape was amazing! You can buy new ones now at about $20 each but these are the real McCoy!

Re: Rare find

I had a super nice hand crank organ a couple of years ago Merv with a bunch of music rolls on wooden spools. It was solid mahogany with gold guilding all around and in prestine condition. Was made in England. I sold it but now wish I hadn't. Took a fair amount of steady cranking in order to make the music sound correct and it was quite early. Someone had dated it about 1865.
