3-B ( Built By Brad )
Maybe getting a little ahead of myself LOL.

The build on the 35% Carden Edge 540 started last night. The pre build collection of parts and components started weeks ago.

First I started by building a solid, straight and level bench to build this plane on.
The bench is 24" x 96". I don't have space to make it wider. But it is anchored to the concrete foundation wall and was built using 2x6 and 3/4 mdf. I could literally put my car on this bench and it won't budge.

Re: Carden 35% Edge 540 build.... 3-B

I opened the wood box and pulled out all the motorbox pieces.
Scaleguy was kind enough to lend me his SWB 2.5 degree motor mount, so that I could start to mark the firewall while I wait for mine to arrive.
Basically I did last night was measure and mark the firewall, figure out which pieces go where. Tonight I will be marking the motor box pieces for some cutting and lightening, and hopefully cut out firewall.
Canadian Tire had a drill press on sale this week and Forstner bits. Had to buy all that

I put the motor over the plans, just because.
This is all new to me, and the wow factor hasn't gone away yet

I will need 3/8 to 1/2 an inch of spacers to get the motor hub spaced correctly for the cowl

Very nice Brad!!! - Looks like you are ahead of schedule on the start - Congrats!!

I'll be watching with interest!! You couldn't have picked a better airframe - those 35% Edge's are just amazing and they seriously float like nothing else (especially if you keep it light)!!!

PS - If you keep the SWB mount long enough, Scaleguy might forget he lent it to you!!

Yes, They are in this weeks flyer.
Good until Thursday or Friday. Think Thursday to be safe.

There was 1 kit in the flyer ( the bigger one )
In the store there were 2 kits on sale. The bigger one, and a smaller one.
Got the bigger one.

Re: Carden 35% Edge 540 build.... 3-B

Here is a basic run down of what i am thinking build wise and components already collected for it.

Essentially, i am just going to mimic some of Trevors techniques for lightening and stuff. It won't be a radical featherweight. But there will be some modest lightening.
Lighten the motor box to help compensate for the cannisters.
Some swiss cheese effect on the turtle deck. My wife and daughter have already been informed to not throw out the moose can when its empty
Some cuting of the wing cores out towards the tips.
Remove some balsa sheeting from the sides of the fuselage.
Cut some holes in the belly pan.

Components:
Hitec 7955's - 1 each per aileron and elevator
Hitec 7980 - 1 on the rudder
Hitec 7954 - for the throttle ( overkill, but it was the smallest and cheapest HV servo I could find )
Durant Direct Drive boxes for the servos ( no exposed linkage )
DA100L with Cannisters.
AR9100 powersafe receiver with 3 or 4 satelites
Batteries : to be determined........ either LiFe or LIon. Haven't decided yet.
A lot of Carbon Fiber stuff.....
Carbon Fiber landing gear, wheel pants, wing and stab tubes, and spinner.
All left natural. Will blend nicely with the color scheme i am thinking.

Thats all I can think of at the moment
