Hi Mark

Eeek - Yes I've just started covering the model - Orange/white - Been doing a house reno - yard work oh and covering events like MaidenFest didn't help either. Also got a 40size Turnbuckle needs finishing before Fathers day.

Made a fiberglass canopy for the King Contender also using a plaster/paris mold so yes its been a while for posting but endstage is near for sure!

Re: IMAA sized sport model build.

Its getting near done!!! I reached the ARF stage of having it covered and now its just getting all the gear installed and balanced before its maiden.

Not happy with cockpit but will live with it want to get it flying soon!
I might order a P-51 canopy or a Sig one that may fit this beasty.

Not yet. we were trying to set a date. But then he went quiet at his end. He might be travelling again, don't know.

Re: IMAA sized sport model build.

The Gas Contender Fly's

Yes I got the maiden flight done yesterday. It was very gusty hot & humid day at the field and I thought I get the plane on the grass to see how she rolls - I opened the throttle a bit and she started rolling - I was a busy with steering trying too keep things running straight - The plane may of hit a small bump or it simply lifted off - I saw air under the wheels - Go for it! the little voice in my head said! - I throttle up a tad more and the plane climbed out oh so nicely - I had done about 4 circuits and found I only needed 4 clicks of up trim to fly hands off. My hands were shaking I told myself to relax but after 10-15 laps I thought best to land. It was gustly and it was only a matter of bliping the throttle on final to land oh so gently. The fat airfoil has tons of lift. I don't think I was ever going faster than half throttle. The only thing noticable is the landing gear wire being so long on this trike it flexes easily and may need beefing up. That was it for the day so I put the plane in the shade and got a cold one too celebrate. After 9 months that filght made my year!

PS: I didn't take any pic's I didn't want any bad Karma - I will have the plane next weekend at SmithFalls for Zone G

Re: IMAA sized sport model build.

Hi Guys!

I got out for another 5 flights yesterday! I love this model!

Take off are dead easy at half throttle climbs out so smoooooth this model tracks very well
Rolls are fairly fast and axial to the right but a little less axial left due to engine torque I think. At half throttle its a cruiser from level flight easily pulls into giant purfect circular loops cut the throttle at top and let here slide down the back sides same goes for Split S's

Inverted Yes nice the model may be a tad nose heavy as a bit of down preasure is needs to hold it level. Got lot of room inside for battery movements to play with this later.

That fat airfoil really slow the model down fast when cut back to idle and once you know that its only a matter of bliping the throttle on landings with a touch of flare at touch down feather light every time. I think If I ever have a flame out best to push forward right away to keep airspeed up.

If I had to compare the flight it would like that of a TF Contender or a Tiger II

The only place of modification that may be needing tweaking is the main gear location in that it may be needing to be bent back slightly for more stability on those long legs. The plane is kind of wobbly on runways but totally stable and great in the grass
