Small Gasoline Engines

Someone on another thread about the new factory gasoline conversions of small displacement engines said that this is "nothing new". Now I was aware that all the samll vintage model engines were powered by gasoline before the invent of glow fuel. While looking for an add in old magazines for the Evra engine I came across something that I had missed. I knew that Saito in the early years had made a two stroke engine but I didn't realize that it was gasoline powered.

Model Airplane News March 1978. I wonder if there is any of these still in existance?

I think it was the ignition systems, today we have CDI ignition that is light weight and reliable, the older motors used heavy magnito ignition systems, and they needed to be the same size on a 20cc as on a 60cc, so weight was high on small motors

my thoughts anyway.

Re: Small Gasoline Engines

That makes sense! I wish we could get gas for $.60/gallon again though!

Re: Small Gasoline Engines

Love the prices of the rc engines ..
Most of us switched to Glow from Gas and Diesel because they put out more power per pound, and they were easier to set up ..
