I have a used SPE 26cc gas engine with a CH ignition and a new not yet installed Bowman ring. I have run it on a stand only, and I remember it was difficult to start, but seemed to run OK once it got going. Has been sitting around for a while, I was going to install the ring and rebuild the carb, but I never got around to it. The muffler and velocity stack are from a FTL26cc. $75, local sale preferred, I don't really want to ship at this time.

Thanks,
Colin

I'll take it if you'll ship it to me in B.C. I need a spare.....

Cheers, Nigel

Hi cgeisel11,

I'm curious...did you turn the cylinder head 180 degrees? The orientation of the exhaust and carb appears to be backwards, or is this a different version of SPE 26cc?

Re: SPE26cc w/CH ignition and Bowman ring

Hi Shine, the engine is as I bought it (used). I never really noticed that before, but I did a little bit of internet research and found out you are definitely correct. All the SPE's I can find seem to have the cylinder flipped the other way. I did find out that the engine is for sure not a stock SPE. Both Brillelli and BMCA sold their own version of this engine. From what little research I did, I would guess that this SPE is a Brillelli version. (single bolt prop hub and CH ignition).

I'm not sure at all how the cylinder orientation affects the engine performance. Also, I took the muffler off today and noticed that the engine is equipped with 2 rings, and I only ordered one from Frank.

So I think for now, I will put it back on the shelf until I can sort it out. I really don't want to sell it to anyone like that.

Re: SPE26cc w/CH ignition and Bowman ring

It did make me wonder as well, I have 2 SPE 26 on the shelf, I had to grab one and hold it up to the screen to make sure.. both are the opposite orientation of yours and the stock engine has 2 rings. I don't actually recall if there is any difference in the crankcase as far as porting would be concerned but pretty sure it would run better in the proper orientation. Can't say I have ever tried it turned around..
