Scale helis at the Spectrum Event

Here is a video of the scale helis at the Spectrum Heli event last weekend.

Saturday was basically for the pod and boom helis and Sunday was for the scale birds, though both could also fly on either day.

There were 14 scale birds, here are some of them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=kJvw5g7DzPk

In the order that they are presented in the video:

1 - Merek's FunKey 50 size A-109 with retracts and Century 4-blade Diamond head with T600 mechanics - lots of detail work done here. (Also in the closing part of the video).
2 - Sylvain's Vario EC-145 with vario gasser mechanics
3 - Jack's FunKey 50 size Tow Defender with Century 50 mechanics w/electric conversion, 5 blade Century Diamond rotor head and a lot of detail - note the moving FLIR on the nose
4 - Merek's FunKey 50 size H-500D with T600 mechanics
5 - Merek's FunKey 50 sized Bell 222 with retracts and with a lot of great details added with T600 mechanics.
6 - Shawn's FunKey 60/90 size Bell 222 with modeler made electric conversion to Century 50 size mechanics with a stretched boom & retracts.
7 - Jack's FunKey 30 size AS355 Twin Star fuselage with Century Hawk mechanics with electric conversion.
8 - George's Hirobo 30 size Llama

Missing were some other notables like Valdy's FunKey 50 size Long Ranger with T600 mechanics. Jack's 50 size FunKey Airwolf with T600 mechanics.

On static display was John's BIG turbine Llama and partially built Huey and Sylvain's big Vario H500 with 5 blade head.

Interesting

Re: Scale helis at the Spectrum Event

This kind of heli flying I can watch all day, very nice Phil thanks for sharing with us. Tell me is it my imagination or do the scale Hughes 500 helis fly better than most other scale fuses?

Re: Scale helis at the Spectrum Event

I did a special demo flight of the 500MD TD at a float fly-in today (also did water drops with the Ranger) and I needed a shovel to lift the jaws up off the ground at the end of the flight. The most common thing I overheard was that it is no longer a model in the air but a helicopter. I truly enjoy flying scale and appreciate a good flight when I see one. There are some really good pilots in that video and the rest you are working on to hone their scale skills. Thanks for the post, Phil.

Re: Scale helis at the Spectrum Event

Thanks for that link - my personal flying exploits are very non-scale but i sure love watching scale aircraft. incredible work has gone into those and I have serious respect for the craftsmen/pilots.

Re: Scale helis at the Spectrum Event

You are welcome everyone. Glad you guys enjoyed it. It was a great event with the concentration of 3D and sport flying on Saturday and scale flying on Sunday. It seemed to have worked out well for everyone.

Maybe somewhere I can find some video of some of the great 3D flights from Saturday also.
